The dark plum/garnet-colored 1997 Barolo Rocche dei Brovia begins slowly, but grows incrementally until it totally coats the palate. Thick and powerful, it exhibits sexy aromatics of prunes, cherries, and plums. In the mouth, dried fig notes also make an appearance in this intensely flavored, concentrated, muscular wine. Despite its precociousness, there is plenty of tannin lurking beneath the viscosity. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2018.
